Genting’s World Dream cruise liner floated out in Germany

Genting Cruise Lines celebrated the launch of their new World Dream vessel on Saturday, August 26. The ship was floated out of Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. Although not its maiden voyage, the float out marks the first time the new and second member of Dream Cruises went from dry land to the sea. The celebration also marked the vessel’s introduction to the public of its colorful new hull artwork.

The cruise ship joins Genting Dream, which made its maiden voyage in November 2016. Both of the ships will serve Asian markets.  World Dream has traversed the river Ems and is now headed into the North Sea en route to Hong Kong. World Dream will sail out of Hong Kong on November 17 and Guangzhou, China on the 19th. From there it will visit Boracay and Manila, Philippines along with Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang, Vietnam to take passengers on six day – five night cruises. Weekend cruises out of Hong Kong will take in various parts of the Pearl River Delta which includes the megalopolis of the Guangdong—Hong Kong—Macau Greater Bay Area.

“Genting Cruise Lines is extremely proud to commemorate the float out of World Dream, the newest member of our family, for Dream Cruises, “Asia’s Luxury Cruise Line,” stated Kent Zhu, President of Genting Cruise Lines. “Well on her way to completion, World Dream will effectively double Dream Cruises’ capacity in the Asia Pacific to cater to the high-end and fly/cruise markets in the region with even more enhanced facilities and amenities.”

Genting Cruise Lines, a division of Genting Hong Kong Ltd, comprises Crystal Cruises, Star Cruises, and Dream Cruises serving the ultra-luxury, contemporary, and premium segments respectively.

“We are excited to welcome the maiden voyage of World Dream and her first homeport season in Hong Kong. The deployment of World Dream to Hong Kong, offering a world-class cruising experience, strengthens the city’s position as Asia’s cruise hub and enhances its attractiveness as a cruise destination,” stated Anthony Lau, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, according to a report on latecruisenews.com.

World Dream has 1,686 staterooms with capacity for 3,400 guests and 70% of the rooms will have ocean views. The massive cruise liner will feature some 35 bars and restaurants according to the report. in the way of entertainment, World Dream is slated to debut the cruise industry’s largest virtual reality game room with laser shows, computer-generated fireworks displays, and Vesaro car racing simulators, as well as signature attractions such as ballroom shows like “Sogno” and “Some, Like it Hot”.

Retail, spa, and an all-inclusive concept called Dream Palace will enhance visitors’ experiences.

Artwork on the hull, as seen in the video above, is provided by Jacky Tsai. The artist emblazoned the line’s first ship, Genting Dream with a distinct mural depicting a mermaid and astronaut.

“Where Genting Dream told the tale of a romantic love between an astronaut and a mermaid, the artwork for the new ship, World Dream, is about a stronger, purer love of family and everlasting friendships,” said Jacky Tsai.
